Frequently Asked Questions About Fuel Cost Calculator
How do I calculate the cost of a trip?
Divide the trip distance by your MPG to get gallons, then multiply by the fuel price per gallon. For a 300 mile trip at 28 MPG and $3.49/gal that is about 10.7 gallons × $3.49 ≈ $37. The calculator does this and adds liters and cost per mile.
How many gallons of gas will I use?
Gallons = trip distance ÷ MPG. A 300 mile trip in a 28 MPG car uses about 10.7 gallons. The calculator returns gallons and the liter equivalent (1 gallon ≈ 3.785 L).
How much does it cost per mile to drive?
Cost per mile = fuel price ÷ MPG. At $3.49/gal and 28 MPG that is about $0.125 per mile. Multiply by your commute to see the daily or yearly fuel cost. The calculator gives this directly.
Does this work for electric or hybrid cars?
This calculator uses MPG and a per-gallon price, so it suits gas, diesel and hybrid cars. For an EV, divide the trip distance by miles per kWh and multiply by your electricity price instead.
Is this fuel cost calculator free?
Yes, completely free with no signup. All maths runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded or tracked.
